The Summer Solstice
occurs when the sun reaches its most northerly point above the Tropic of Capricorn,
producing the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.
In Europe, Midsummer's Eve is a time to prepare for the waning of the sun's power.
Fires are kept burning all night and there is singing, dancing and drinking.
